Many Lives, Many Masters - Dr. Brian Weiss

Many Lives Many Masters is a true story of a psychiatrist and a patient, and a past-life therapy that changed both their lives. Dr. Brian Weiss, M.D., graduated from Columbia University and Yale Medical school, he spent years practicing study of Human Psychology. Dr. Weiss was conservative in his profession and did not trust anything that could not be proved by traditional science.

In 1980 he met a 27 year old patient, Catherine who was troubled by anxiety, panic attacks and phobias, came to his office for therapy. Dr. Weiss was taken aback during the therapy sessions and he stopped his conservative psychiatric thinking as he discovered the concept of reincarnation and many beliefs of Hinduism.

Dr. Weiss used common methods of treatment to help Catherine overcome her traumas for 18 months. When nothing worked, he tried hypnosis which he says is an excellent tool to help patient remember long forgotten memories. Basically hypnosis is a state of focused concentration causing the memory to sharpen and remember long forgotten memories. During the earlier sessions, he hypnotized Catherine back to her childhood, she recalled drowning in a pool and being abused by her alcoholic father. But what came next made skeptics like Dr. Weiss to believe into the transcendental world.

Catherine recalled her ‘past life’ memories that proved to be the cause of her anxiety and panic attacks. She remembered living 86 times in physical states in different places both as male and female. She clearly recalled the details of each birth, her name, her family, her physical appearance, places and how she died in each life. In each lifetime she experienced innumerable events making progress and fulfilling all the karmic debts owed to her. Dr. Weiss’s skepticism further diminished when she began to channel messages from the many Masters who are highest souls not presently in body. She also made remarkable revelations about his family and his dead son that Catherine could not possibly have known.

Patients often talked about their near – death experiences in which they floated out of their bodies towards a bright white light before they return to their bodies again. But Catherine revealed much more, as she floated out of her body after each death, she said that she was aware of a bright light which gave positive energy. Then while waiting to be born again in next life she got to learn wisdom from the Masters and became a channel for transcendental world. Finally, Dr. Weiss believed that Catherine was able to focus on the part of her subconscious mind that stored past – life memories due to hypnosis, eventually this therapy also helped to overcome her phobias, panic attacks and anxiety.

Many Lives Many Masters is an incredible book by Dr. Brian Weiss. His and Catherine’s experiences about past lives are truly fascinating, and no matter how skeptic you are about reincarnation, the lessons by Masters about how to live are universal. In the end it all comes down to Love, Patience and Peace.
